Poll Shows Left-Wing Coalition Ahead in Uruguay’s Election Race

In Uruguay’s vibrant political scene, the Frente Amplio (FA) has taken the lead in voter preferences for the presidential race on October 27, 2024.

A recent Cifra survey reveals that 45% of voters support the left-wing coalition FA, while the incumbent National Party (PN) holds 32%.

Smaller parties within the ruling coalition capture 11%, and another 11% of voters remain undecided.

This poll compares to March’s results, where the FA led with 46%. The PN maintained a stable 32%, and the rate of undecided voters rose slightly from 11% to 12%.

These figures indicate a competitive political environment shaped by long-standing alliances and evolving public opinions.

Mariana Pomiés, a prominent analyst at Cifra, provided insights during a televised interview.

She pointed out the close race between the FA and the ruling coalition, now separated by just 2%. Given the survey’s 3% margin of error, this hints at a potential tie.

Moreover, Pomiés observed, “The power balance has remained consistent, indicating a year of political stability.”

Both the previous and current governments face scrutiny over their policies as the FA and PN continue as evenly matched contenders, a dynamic visible since early this year.

President Luis Lacalle Pou, barred from immediate reelection by constitutional limits, observes as his party competes against a rejuvenated FA.

Both factions are preparing for the pivotal June primaries, which promise a critical clash that may redefine Uruguay’s political framework.

As the election nears, Uruguayans prepare to make a pivotal choice that will steer their nation’s future.

The upcoming primaries generate excitement about who will contest for the presidency.

This narrative captures the democratic process in action and mirrors the country’s ongoing pursuit of advancement and stability.
