Paraguay: exports grow 30.6% in the first quarter of 2023

As of the first quarter of 2023, total Paraguayan exports reached a value of US$4.019 billion, representing an increase of 30.6% compared to the US$3.077 billion achieved in March of the previous year.

Mobilization in the first quarter of 2023 accounted for 66.7% of the total, reaching US$2.679 billion, 23.4% higher than the accumulated value as of March 2022.

Re-exports, on the other hand, with 27.1% of the total, registered a value of US$1.089 billion, an increase of 39.4% over the same period last year.

Other exports, with a 6.2% share, recorded an increase of 100.2% compared to the value of March of the previous year, reaching a level of US$251.1 million.

Higher shipments of soybeans, electric power, and corn mainly explain the increased registered exports.

Movements under the Maquila Regime reached US$267.4 million, 17.9% higher than that recorded in the same period of 2022.

IMPORTS

As of March 2023, total imports reached US$3.664 billion, 6.6% higher than in the same period of the previous year.

Registered imports accounted for 96% of the total, reaching a value of US$3,520 billion, 6.7% higher with respect to the accumulated value as of March 2022, while other imports accounted for the remaining 4%, for a value of US$145 million.

In volumes, a reduction of 13.7% was observed.

TRADE BALANCE

As of the first quarter of 2023, the trade balance recorded a surplus of US$354.7 million, higher by US$715.3 million than the deficit recorded in March 2022.
