RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Paraguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Euclides Acevedo, signed the document with Argentine authorities in an act in Presidente Franco, Alto Paraná, Paraguay, last weekend.

The signing is to express the intention of both countries to build an international bridge between Presidente Franco (Paraguay) and Puerto Iguazú (province of Misiones, Argentina).

The activity was attended by the Ambassador of Argentina in Paraguay, Domingo Peppo. If the physical integration project is completed, it will become the third bridge between Argentina and Paraguay (San Ignacio de Loyola and San Roque González de Santa Cruz).

The Foreign Minister Acevedo, the Ambassador of Argentina, the Minister of Tourism, Sofía Montiel de Afara, the Paraguayan Consul in Puerto Iguazú, Magno Álvarez, the Mayor of Presidente Franco, Roque Godoy (PLRA), and the Mayor of Puerto Iguazú, Claudio Fillipa, among others, referred to the importance of the intention.

The representatives discussed the benefits that this proposal would bring for regional integration in trade, tourism, and bilateral relations.

The presentation of the project was in charge of the Director of Works of the Municipality of Pdte. Franco, Cristian Franco, and the Director of Public Works Planning, Miguel Vega, of the same municipality.

According to a report from the national Chancellery, the meeting was the beginning of negotiations between both countries to advance in the physical integration work.

According to the initial plans, the site selected for the work is Puerto Península de Presidente Franco, a few kilometers away from the future Integration Bridge that will link the city of Presidente Franco with Foz de Iguaçú (Brazil). This work, which is under construction, is financed by Itaipu Binacional, and the cost amounts to US$83 million.
