Brazil and Paraguay agree to third bridge of Bi-oceanic Highway
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The bridge will span 1.294 km and be 20.10 m wide, to be built by the Ministry of Public Works and the Itaipu Binational Entity. It will connect the Paraguayan city of Carmelo Peralta with Brazil’s Puerto Murtinho to strengthen regional integration and enhance the functionality of the Bi-oceanic Road Corridor.
“The construction of the bridge will enable the regional connectivity of this corridor. It is contracted for 36 months. It’s 3 years, but the consortium is committed to try to reduce that time. And we are here today to say that the construction of the first bridge between Paraguay and Brazil over the Paraguay River is now underway,” said Paraguay’s Minister of Public Works and Communications Arnoldo Wiens.

The call for bids for this project was approved in mid-February by the Paraguay-Brazil Joint Commission. The process is the result of an International agreement signed between the governments of Paraguay and Brazil on June 8, 2016.
Through a Joint Declaration on December 21, 2018, then presidents Abdo Benítez and Michel Temer agreed on the construction of two international bridges to be fully financed by Itaipu Binacional.
One of them is the Integration Bridge, between Presidente Franco and Foz de Iguazú, over the Paraná River, and the other, connecting Carmelo Peralta with Puerto Murtinho, over the Paraguay River.
