The homicide rate for each group of 100,000 inhabitants reached 27.5 in the country in 2018, while in 2017 it was 30.8 – a reduction of 10.8 percent.

In terms of rates per state government, the highest are in Roraima (66.6), Amapá (57.9), Rio Grande do Norte (55.4), and Pará (54.6).

The lowest were recorded in São Paulo (9.5), Santa Catarina (13.3), Minas Gerais (15.4) and the Federal District (16.6).

The study associates the homicide rate in Roraima and Amapá to the actions of criminal factions in these regions.

In the case of Amapá, the annual report points out the scenario as “even more dramatic”. Data show that the rate of violent deaths per 100,000 inhabitants has grown by 1.100 percent in seven years. “Intelligence services attest to the existence of seven criminal factions in the state, still at war in early 2019,” the study points out.
