THE FIGHT AGAINST CRIME

According to the Ministry of Interior, there were 300 homicides in Uruguay in 2021, a figure in decline compared to 2020.

Official figures indicate that, from January to September 2021, homicides fell by 16.7%, although in the last quarter of the year, from July to September, the numbers began to rise again.

The strategy promoted by the Lacalle Pou government also led to a decrease in thefts (-6.5%), robberies (-17.4%), domestic violence complaints (-5.8%), and cattle theft, the most significant figure, with a drop of 41.6%.
