Colombia starts maintenance of the ARC Nariño corvette

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Colombian Navy (ARC) has initiated the necessary steps to advance a maintenance process of its Donghae class corvette, the ARC Nariño (55). During operations during the first half of last year, the corvette suffered considerable damage to its sonar and minor damage to its hull.

As a result, the Pacific Naval Force (FNC) command decided to anticipate the routine process of overhaul and maintenance of its engines. Also, it advanced the process of quotation not only for spare parts and works but also for a new sonar to replace the damaged one.

In this sense, the ARC would have obtained offers for the sonar and the necessary spare parts in Germany, valued at approximately one million dollars. Once these supplies are acquired, maintenance and repair work will begin.

The Nariño is a Donghae class corvette, manufactured in South Korea and transferred in 2014 to the Colombian Navy by its Korean counterpart, within the memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Defense of both nations.
