Covid-19: Uruguay eases rules for the arrival of foreign travelers

By · February 23, 2022 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Sources of the Ministry of Health have indicated that, for vaccinated citizens, it will be sufficient to present an antigen test and no longer a PCR test.

Meanwhile, the authorities of Argentina have relaxed the criteria for access to their country, eliminating the PCR test requirement. Likewise, Brazil seems to follow this measure.

In the case of Uruguay, new protocols are being sought to favor the entry of tourists, given the ‘Carnival’ festivities, scheduled between February 26 and March 1.

The Uruguayan Ministry of Public Health has held meetings to progress this issue.

A change of protocol was decided, pending acceptance by the legal division of the government’s Presidency.

With this, vaccinated travelers will be able to present the negative result of an antigen test carried out no more than 72 hours before their arrival in the South American country.

Thus, the PCR will not be mandatory, although it will be accepted, lowering the total cost of traveling.

The Ministry of Tourism intends to make the entry to the country more flexible in the dates before Carnival and the Tourism Week, to improve the sector’s prospects.
