RIO DE JANEIRO – If moving house is widely regarded as one of the more stressful activities to undertake in life, then doing so to another country is even more so, especially if you do not know how or where to find good suppliers, competent professionals or advice on how much things will cost. A new interior design show, Morar Mais por Menos (Living More for Less) is planned to fill this gap perfectly for the first time buyer or renter in the Brazilian market, and takes place across nine state capitals in Brazil.

The Rio de Janeiro edition on the banks of the Lagoa occupies three floors with no less than 76 show rooms, with everything from charming nurseries to trendy cafes. An immense diversity of ideas and products on display, the selections are at once highly inspirational, functional, trend setting and captivating for visitors shown various rooms that are absolutely ‘doable’, realistic and affordable.

Making it easy to source any item that catches the eye, a frame on the wall of each one displays lists of all the products, suppliers and professionals involved in its design, complete with contact details and prices. For those seeking an extra bargain, the close of the event will see a product sale with up to fifty percent discount on many of the items on show.

Since its inauguration in 2004, Morar Mais por Menos has been driven by a single simple concept, to find good value for products and services within the sophisticated interior design market, whilst also bringing – for the first time to a Brazilian interior design show – the current buzz concept of sustainability.

Morar Mais Por Menos is located on the eastern edge of the Lagoa, image by www.morarmais.com.br.

It is now a member of the Green Building Council Brazil, and has been pioneering other sound ideas.  One example of which is social inclusion, making it compulsory for any participating designer to include items made by NGOs or local co-ops of craftspeople in order to give their business and products visibility to a wider public and by continuation helping low income communities.

Local resourcing and culture, together with technological innovation are also encouraged, and the sum of all these factors gives the show a unique credibility.

The event has the collaboration of government agencies Sebrae and Firjan, supporting newcomers, designers and entrepreneurs, as well as promoting education and courses aiming at incentive for the Carioca design industry.

Morar Mais por Menos runs until the 19th of September at Av. Epitácio Pessoa 4866, Fonte da Saudade, Lagoa from 12-9PM, Tuesday to Sunday.  Entrance prices are R$20 from Tuesday to Friday and R$25 Weekends and Bank Holidays, a twenty percent discount is available for students and people over 60 years of age.
