Carry Wins In Colombia As $/COP Drifts Lower And Stocks Consolidate
Key Points
- $/COP traded near 3,791 early Tuesday; the TRM was set at 3,792.59, down 25.34 pesos (0.66%).
- A 9.25% policy rate and a 23 trillion-peso ($5.94 billion) TES operation kept carry and flow support in focus.
- The MSCI COLCAP rose 0.37% to 2,056.64, with mixed momentum signals and clear technical levels.
On Monday, $/COP opened near 3,806, swung between roughly 3,778.81 and 3,812.89, and finished around 3,785. Early Tuesday, the pair hovered near 3,791 on ICE, while Colombia’s official TRM was fixed at 3,792.59.
“Están pesando más los factores locales que las tendencias globales,” said Juan Pablo Vieira of JP Tactical Trading. The 9.25% policy rate keeps carry attractive, and the Finance Ministry’s direct TES operation of 23 trillion pesos (about $5.94 billion) reinforced expectations of near-term dollar supply.
Investors appear more comfortable with that discipline than with talk of covering a roughly 16 trillion-peso ($4.2 billion) gap via emergency decrees.

The dollar index sat near 98.06 in early Asia, and flow trackers have recently shown net inflows into emerging-market funds. But liquidity is the risk multiplier: as StoneX’s Matt Simpson put it, thin holiday markets can deliver “the most bang” for policy signals.
On the 4-hour $/COP chart, RSI was near 33.8, with 3,800 as first resistance, 3,818–3,825 above that, and a move back above 3,805–3,811 reading as a relief bounce.
The daily view kept RSI around 47 and MACD rolling over, with support in the 3,730–3,770 zone and resistance near 3,817 and 3,830.

The MSCI COLCAP closed at 2,056.64 (+0.37%); 4-hour RSI was near 40 and daily RSI near 48, with a weakening MACD histogram. The tone still looks like consolidation after a strong 2025 run.
Resistance sits near 2,062, with supports around 2,021–2,010 and then 1,987. Ecopetrol added about 0.28%. Trading value last week was about 832.22 billion pesos ($219 million), up from 464.45 billion ($122 million).
Top winners: COP versus USD; Grupo Argos (+3.63%); Nutresa (+2.63%); Grupo Argos pref (+2.59%); EEB (+2.26%).
Top losers: USD versus COP; Cementos Argos pref (−4.05%); Promigas (−2.60%); ETB (−2.15%); Davivienda pref (−1.11%).
