Brazilianists in U.S. urge Biden to supply the country with vaccines

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A letter signed by over 400 Brazilianists and friends of Brazil in the U.S., including Brazilians living in the country, was sent to President Joe Biden calling for help in shipping vaccines to Brazil.

The letter comes in response to a humanitarian appeal from the presidents of 6 trade unions in Brazil that represent some 50 million Brazilian workers.

In addition to the request to mobilize the U.S. government in an effort to secure vaccines for Brazil, the document cites the promotion of partnerships for a larger and more sustainable production of immunizers.

Supported by the U.S. Network for Democracy in Brazil (USNDB), the letter is the first effort of a larger campaign to mobilize the Brazilian community in the U.S., as well as friends of Brazil, over the coming months, the statement said.

It also cited the fact that the USNDB is a network of over 1,500 people at 234 colleges and universities in 45 states in the United States.

“With over 400,000 people dead and much devastation, it is time to set our differences aside and join forces to help the Brazilian people,” said Alvaro Lima, Director of Research at the Boston Planning and Development Agency, according to the released text.
