Panama’s tourism sector records higher-than-expected revenues in the first half of the year

From January to June, tourism in Panama generated US$752.6 million in revenues, eight percent more than expected, thanks to the country’s international promotion and marketing efforts, the Panama Tourism Promotion Fund (Promtur), responsible for this strategy, announced today.

Promtur said the initial estimate for the period was US$695.8 million and attributed the result to the performance of the new tourism brand “Panama, Vive por Más” and the high performance of marketing campaigns and promotion of the destination with key strategic allies, a statement from the fund said.

The general director of Promtur, Fernando Fondevila, linked the result to the positioning efforts of the country’s new tourism brand, which will be launched in October 2019 and aims to make people who visit Panama annually in transit consider extending their stay.

He also mentioned the impact of Expedia, Edreams and Hotelbeds’ marketing initiatives, noting the factors that have “contributed to the gradual reactivation of demand from our main key markets.”

Fondevila explained that international promotion of Panama is maintained 24 hours a day, seven days a week in all key markets defined in the Panama Tourism Authority’s Sustainable Tourism Master Plan.

These include countries such as the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina, Spain, France and Germany.
