Argentina reaches a record 60 million tons of grain exports
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Despite the difficulties imposed by the level of the Paraná River and the productive setback suffered by some of the main crops during the last campaign, Argentina shipped, from all its port terminals, grains for 60.66 million tons in 2021, 7% more than everything shipped in 2020 and reaching an all-time record by surpassing the 2019 mark (60.3 Mt were shipped then).
Broken down by grain type, Corn shipments totaled 38.4 Mt, more than 2 Mt higher than what was shipped during 2020 (+6%) and thus reaching the highest volume in history.

Outbound shipments of Bread Wheat totaled 11.6 Mt, increasing 13% over the volume shipped in 2020 and only below the record of 2017. Soybeans, meanwhile, totaled shipments of 5.2 Mt, registering a 22% drop from the previous year’s figure. Barley shipments totaled 2.95 Mt, a 14% improvement over the 2020 mark, while Sorghum shipments totaled 2.1 Mt, a record since 2013. Finally, 0.1 Mt of Sunflower were shipped from the country’s port terminals, 26% below the previous year’s record.

Likewise, to the 60.32 Mt of Argentine grains that were shipped from all the country’s port terminals in the last year are added the 0.34 Mt of goods of Bolivian and/or Paraguayan origin that were also shipped from port terminals located in the national territory, which allows reaching the aforementioned record of 60.66 Mt.
Observing the shipments by port area, it can be seen that the terminals of Gran Rosario are the ones that had the highest participation in the total in 2021. However, it is the lowest since 2012 and the second lowest since 2006.
Greater Rosario terminals moved 37.2 million tons in 2021, terminals in the south of Greater Buenos Aires transported 19.5 million tons, with the rest of the terminals in the country with 3.8 million tons shipped.
