Some facts about East Timor – from the first new nation of the millennium to the world’s most biodiverse waters

Timor-Leste, or East Timor, is part of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and one of the youngest countries in the world.

It occupies the eastern part of the island of Timor in Southeast Asia, plus the exclave of Ambeno on the north coast of western Timor, the island of Ataúro to the north, and the islet of Jaco off the eastern tip of the island.

The only land borders that the country connects it with Indonesia, in the west of the main part of the territory and in the east, south, and west of Ambeno, but . . .
