YouTube demonetizes all channels of conservative Jovem Pan in Brazil, the largest radio network in LATAM

Alleging violations of the platform’s policy “against disinformation in elections,” Youtube has decided to censor by demonetizing all the channels that make up the Jovem Pan network.

The platform informed us about the decision on Wednesday (Nov. 23).

In the statement, YouTube said that the program ‘Os Pingos nos Is’ violated the platform’s guidelines by dealing with topics “related to controversial issues and sensitive events” during the election period.

During the electoral campaign, Jovem Pan was the target of prior censorship imposed by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

The Court prohibited the station from referring to the PT’s presidential candidate, Lula da Silva, with the terms “uncondemned”, “ex-predator”, “thief”, “corrupt,” and “head of a criminal organization”.

See YouTube’s statement:

“The channel Os Pingos nos Is has incurred repeated violations of our policies against disinformation in elections and our guidelines for content suitable for advertising, including those related to controversial issues and sensitive events, dangerous or harmful acts, and other monetization policies.”

“Thus, we suspended the monetization of the respective channel and the others that make up the Jovem Pan network on YouTube, following our rules,” the platform said.

ONE OF THE LARGEST RADIO STATIONS IN THE WORLD

São Paulo-based Jovem Pan is the leading Brazilian radio station, the largest network of radio stations in Latin America, and one of the biggest radio stations in the world.

The network has several bureaus and 109 affiliated stations all over Brazil.

Jovem Pan broadcasts through satellite digital quality sound, reaching more than 25 million listeners worldwide through the Internet.

The radio network is close to Jair Bolsonaro’s conservative movement, which is also why it is repeatedly subject to censorship despite its size and influence.
