Luciana Santos of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), future Minister of Science and Technology in the Lula da Silva government, was convicted of administrative impropriety in 2019.
The court held Luciana Santos and her employees responsible for a fraudulent contract for the management of the energy and lighting park in Olinda , through a tender in 2004. That year, Luciana Santos was mayor of the city.
The decision set a fine of five times the salary she received as head of the municipal executive, in addition to a period of six years of ineligibility.

At the time, Luciana Santos stated that the conviction did not prove the misuse of public funds and that the work had been approved by the Pernambuco Court of Auditors. She appealed, but there is still no decision from the second instance on the case.
Luciana Santos is vice-governor of Pernambuco and president of PCdoB. Graduated as an engineer, she was a deputy for two terms, in 2011 and 2019, when she joined the Chamber’s Science and Technology commissions. The communist will head the portfolio given by Lula da Silva from January 1, 2023. The president-elect praised the fact that she is a woman integrating the first echelon.
