Brazil surpassed historic mark of 20 gigawatts of photovoltaic capacity in September

The photovoltaic source is on the verge of becoming the second largest power generator in Brazil, behind hydroelectric power, according to the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (Absolar).

Data from the association show that Brazil surpassed a new historic mark of 20 gigawatts (GW) installed solar capacity in September.

Adding large-scale plants and power generation systems on rooftops, facades, and small plots of land, the number is equivalent to 9.6% of the country's electricity mix.

According to the association, approximately 1.2 million residential solar systems are installed.
