Brazil lifts vaccine certificate requirement for travelers arriving by air

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to the regulation, visitors wishing to enter the country need only present a negative test, issued by an authorized laboratory.

The entry ban was also lifted for passengers whose flights originate in the United Kingdom, South Africa and India, previously considered high risk due to the outbreak of various coronavirus strains that originated in those countries.

Travel by air is conditional upon the presentation of a negative antigen test result (performed up to 24 hours prior to boarding) or PCR test performed within the previous 72 hours. Passengers must attach a health declaration to the certificates, available on the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) website.

The ban on foreigners entering Brazil by land is still in force, although its change is expected in the coming weeks. Currently, the only country whose border is open for transit to Brazil is Paraguay; residents of neighboring cities are also allowed to cross the border, provided they comply with biosafety requirements.

Argentina is the main source of international tourists to Brazil (almost 2 million travelers in 2019, before the pandemic); for many Argentines Brazil is an ideal vacation destination, as its beaches and natural attractions are consistently in travelers’ plans.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO ENTER BRAZIL

• Identity card or valid passport, as the case may be.
• Covid-19 test with a negative result for SARS CoV-2 virus detection test by PCR-RT technique, performed within 72 hours prior to entering Brazilian territory in a laboratory duly accredited and authorized by the authorities of the country of origin. The certificate must be in Portuguese, Spanish or English.
• Children under 2 years of age, children under 12 years of age accompanied by their parents or legal guardians who accredit a negative PCR-RT test are exempted. Should minors travel unaccompanied, they must present a negative PCR-RT test.
• Proof of international vaccination against yellow fever (the vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before travel).
