Bradespar Reports R$86.9 Million Q4 Loss, Annual Profit Falls 37%
Bradespar S.A. (BRAP4) reported a net loss of R$86.9 million ($15.2 million) for the fourth quarter of 2024. The financial statement released yesterday showed a stark reversal from the R$524 million ($91.9 million) profit in Q4 2023.
The Brazilian investment holding company recorded a full-year 2024 profit of R$1.19 billion ($208.7 million). This represents a 37% decline from the R$1.89 billion ($331.6 million) profit posted in 2023.
Operating revenue turned negative in Q4, hitting -R$163.2 million (-$28.6 million) versus R$451 million ($79.1 million) in Q4 2023. Annual operating revenue totaled R$1.2 billion ($210.5 million), marking a 36.5% decrease year-over-year.
Bradespar derives revenue primarily from equity income and interest from Vale S.A. (VALE3), Brazil’s largest mining company. The deteriorating results reflect Vale’s weakening performance amid challenging global commodity markets.
The company showed a clear downward trajectory through 2024. Bradespar posted profits of R$343.1 million ($60.2 million) in Q1 and R$535.5 million ($93.9 million) in Q2. Q3 brought R$400.58 million ($70.3 million) before the Q4 loss.
Despite disappointing results, Bradespar maintains a solid financial position. The company reported R$557.93 million ($97.9 million) in cash and equivalents at the end of Q3 2024.
Bradespar Faces Decline After Strong Years
Financial results remained positive at R$57.6 million ($10.1 million) for 2024, though 15% lower than 2023. This positive outcome stems from financial investments and remuneration on recoverable taxes.
The company emphasized its debt-free status, having settled all financial obligations in previous years. Total assets reached R$8.92 billion ($1.56 billion), with stockholders’ equity at R$8.81 billion ($1.55 billion) through Q3 2024.
Personnel, general and administrative expenses totaled R$26.3 million ($4.6 million) for 2024. These expenses remained relatively stable throughout the year.
Bradespar’s decline follows several strong years. The company delivered exceptional results in 2021 with R$8.08 billion ($1.42 billion) EBIT and R$3.73 billion ($654.4 million) EBIT in 2022.
Market analysts predict continued challenges ahead. Financial projections suggest 2025 net income around R$1.28 billion ($224.6 million) before improving to R$1.53 billion ($268.4 million) in 2026.
Bradespar shares closed at R$18.06 ($3.17) yesterday, showing a 0.73% five-day rise and an 8.93% gain since January 1st.
