Bolsonaro Says Country Will Be in Good Hands if Moro Becomes Candidate

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – While questioning his willingness to seek re-election, President Jair Bolsonaro said on Thursday, December 26th, that Brazil will be in good hands should former Judge Sérgio Moro be a candidate for his succession in 2022.

According to the president, the current Minister of Justice “is adored in Brazil” and “has enormous potential.

The statements were given in his weekly live broadcast, explaining why he sanctioned the rule establishing the role of the guarantees judge, to the detriment of his minister’s contrary opinion.

Bolsonaro said that despite his disagreement with Moro, the minister has done “exceptional work” and that he has consulted the former judge on matters of his government.

The Planalto chief pointed out that during discussions on easing gun ownership in the country, he also adopted a different position from Moro.

“I’ve already disagreed with him. As I have disagreed with other ministers as well. I believe the rate of agreement with the ministers is around 95 percent. It’s going very well,” he said.

Then he added, “Moro has enormous potential. He is adored in Brazil. People say he should consider himself as president. If Moro should succeed, let him be happy, Brazil will be in good hands”.

“And I don’t know if I’ll be a candidate in 2022,” the president concluded.

Bolsonaro has already stated that his party with Moro as vice-president would be unbeatable.

According to Datafolha, the former magistrate, in charge of Lava Jato in Curitiba, established himself as the best rated minister in Bolsonaro’s first year in office. Moro enjoys greater popular support than the president himself – among those who say they know him, 53 percent rate his administration in the ministry as outstanding or good.

Bolsonaro has lower indicators, with 30 percent outstanding or good.
