Bolivia coordinates cooperation with Chile and Argentina to evacuate compatriots affected by crisis in Peru

The Government of Bolivia reported this Sunday that it is coordinating consular cooperation with Argentina and Chile to assist and evacuate citizens of these affected countries in different Peruvian regions, given the political and social crisis that the neighbor country is experiencing.

The Vice Minister of Institutional and Consular Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eva Chuquimia, told reporters that with this coordination she intends to attend to the needs of compatriots and see possibilities for them to go to any consulate of these countries to access the collaboration that It consists of transportation or other needs that are going through the complex situation that Peru is experiencing.

“We have contacted Chile and Argentina to exchange consular cooperation actions in order to see our compatriots from the different countries,” she specified.

The contacts for this support were established within the framework of the contingency operating plan that the Government applies to care for Bolivians who live or are temporarily in Peru, a country plunged into a social crisis since the removal of the former president of that country, Pedro Castillo, on December 7.

According to data from the Foreign Ministry, around 6,000 Bolivians reside in Peru, in addition, several Bolivians make tourist and work trips to various locations in that nation that is experiencing moments of tension that erupted after then-President Pedro Castillo announced the dissolution of Congress and his subsequent dismissal by legislators.

According to the vice minister, since the beginning of the political and social crisis in Peru, after the removal of Castillo as president and the tenure of Dina Boluarte, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry, through the consulates in Tacna, Cusco, Ilo, Puno, Lima and the embassy in that country, served more than two dozen Bolivian compatriots.

The largest number of cases attended were focused on Cusco, from that place a flight to Lima was enabled because road traffic is impossible.

At the same time, the vice minister reported that, in accordance with an agreement between the Foreign Ministry and the state-owned Boliviana de Aviación (BoA), solidarity flights from Lima to Santa Cruz will be enabled in the following days to transport compatriots.

The Foreign Ministry approved on Friday the consular operation plan that declares the consular offices and the Bolivian embassy in Peru to be in continuous care.
