Bitcoin Tops $96K as ETFs and Key Bills Ignite Crypto Markets
According to CoinMarketCap and Farside Investors, the global crypto market cap rose to $2.98 trillion early May 7, 2025. Bitcoin climbed above $96,000 through the Asian session on ETF inflows and fading rate fears.
Traders recorded a 2.2% gain and $31.4 billion in 24-hour volume. The Fear & Greed Index stood at 53, reflecting neutral sentiment. The Altcoin Season Index read 24, confirming Bitcoin’s dominance.
The global market cap rose from $2.93 trillion on May 6 to $2.98 trillion on May 7. Bitcoin’s 24-hour range spanned $93,400 to $97,600. Bitcoin traded at $96,519.67, up 2.22%, with a $1.92 trillion market cap and $857.5 million volume.
Ethereum moved to $1,831.29, a 1.57% rise, boasting a $220.7 billion market cap and $411.2 million volume. Coinbase paused Ethereum transfers early May 7, curbing large outflows and tempering traders’ optimism.
Asia and Europe traders drove volume overnight, as US markets awaited the Fed decision. XRP gained 1.14% to $2.1378, with a $124.8 billion market cap and $63.2 million in daily volume.

Solana edged up 0.72% to $146, carrying a $75.5 billion market cap and $96.3 million in trades. Litecoin led with an 11.17% surge to $91.67, pushing its market cap to $6.94 billion on $25.3 million volume.

Bitcoin Rebounds Amid ETF Inflows
Other small caps such as DOGS, PAWS and VIRTUAL dropped between 5% and 14%. The market saw $36.7 million flow into BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF, boosting investor appetite.
US lawmakers unveiled a draft bill to strengthen digital asset oversight and investor protection. Traders saw this as a sign of evolving regulation rather than a threat to markets.
Traders cited fading Fed hawkishness and rising ETF inflows as key bullish triggers. They noted New Hampshire’s Bitcoin reserve bill and a possible China-US trade deal spurred buying.
Technical indicators broke signal lines as Bitcoin cleared its 200-hour moving average. Wider Bollinger Bands showed rising volatility and confirmed the breakout.
The day-before dip toward $94,000 reversed after traders absorbed sell-off on China ETF rumors. Markets eye the upcoming Federal Reserve decision and Powell’s press conference.
A dovish tone might drive buying up to $100,000, while hawkish hints could trigger a retreat. Traders plan hedges ahead of the rate call, balancing risk and opportunity. Business readers should watch ETF flows and technical breaks as market catalysts.
