Bitcoin Consolidates Below $103,000 as Traders Eye US Economic Data
Bitcoin traded at $102,868 on Thursday morning, declining 0.89% over the past 24 hours as the broader cryptocurrency market enters a consolidation phase.
The flagship cryptocurrency recently tested the $105,700 level but has since retraced amid cautious investor sentiment. Trading volume reached $45.25 billion while Bitcoin fluctuated within a narrow range of $102,618 to $104,303 throughout the day.
Market participants now await the release of US Producer Price Index data, a key economic indicator that could influence Federal Reserve policy decisions.
This anticipation has created a rangebound trading environment across major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin’s market capitalization currently stands at $2.04 trillion, maintaining its dominant position in the cryptocurrency landscape.
Technical analysis of the daily chart reveals Bitcoin faces immediate resistance at $104,200, with a cluster of moving averages providing dynamic support around the $100,000 psychological level.

The price action shows consolidation following the impressive rally that began mid-April. Multiple technical indicators suggest Bitcoin remains in a bullish market structure despite short-term bearish pressure.
Institutional activity continues to drive Bitcoin’s price action while retail participation lags behind. Since early May, capital inflows exceeding $2.2 billion have entered the market, signaling sustained institutional confidence.
This contrasts sharply with retail investor behavior, as data shows they have collectively sold approximately 247,000 Bitcoin throughout 2025. ETF flows also paint an interesting picture of current market dynamics.
The Invesco Bitcoin ETF reported zero net inflows on May 15, potentially indicating a temporary pause in institutional accumulation. Analysts view this development as part of normal market behavior during consolidation rather than a bearish signal.
“While short-term indicators reflect some bearish pressure for Bitcoin, the overall market structure remains strong,” noted Riya Sehgal, research analyst at Delta Exchange.
Bitcoin’s price stability near the $103,000 level demonstrates remarkable resilience as it approaches previous all-time highs. Political developments add another dimension to Bitcoin’s market outlook.
Current discussions around a potential Strategic Bitcoin Reserve proposal could position the cryptocurrency as a national reserve asset. Such a policy shift would dramatically impact long-term demand fundamentals.
The immediate technical outlook suggests Bitcoin may retest support zones between $100,000 and $102,000 before attempting to break above $110,000. Trading volume patterns indicate accumulation continues in this range, with the 50-day moving average providing key directional guidance for medium-term price action.
