55% of couples in Colombia say they do not believe in monogamy – dating app survey

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Increasingly new relationships that go beyond the traditional surprise the world; for example, polygamy continues to be controversial for couples of two. Still, the truth is that within the intimacy of each relationship and each person, the opinion about having more than one partner may vary. In Colombia, as in most of the world, the love relationships of two continue to predominate amid infidelity.

Establishing the ‘rules of the game’ from the beginning of a new relationship could avoid more than one headache, since being clear when indicating whether or not you have an exclusive or polyamorous relationship opens the doors to a reality, revealed this week a national study. A digital survey of more than 15,000 Colombians who are currently in a relationship revealed that 55% of couples do not believe in monogamy.

This survey was carried out by an extramarital dating application – to 15,211 Colombian users from September 30 to October 6 of this year. Of all these people, between men and women, 55% of them said they did not believe in monogamy; that is, for most of these Colombians, the idea of ​​being with only one person for the rest of their life is outdated.

They pointed out from the application that these results seem to indicate that the reality within relations between Colombians would be pretty different from what has traditionally been thought.

Among the reasons these users indicated that they do not believe in the concept of monogamy, or believe that this relationship option is not for them, are monotony, routine, and the lack of intimate relationships between the couple.

During the last year, as a result of the pandemic, situations could be a problem for Colombians, who went from being just a few hours a day with their partner to share 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

But the rejection of monogamy was not the only result highlighted in this survey. It should be remembered that the users of this application already have a relationship or even a stable marriage, which is why 43% of those surveyed have confessed that they started an extramarital or out-of-relationship affair after ten years of a long-lasting relationship.

Again, the most repeated reason for this ‘adventure seeking’ is monotony within the relationships of two and boredom and routine in their activities. On the other hand, 63% of men and women admitted being unfaithful to their partner due to the lack of active and passionate sex life.

Although not believing in monogamy does not necessarily mean being an unfaithful person, in a conservative society such as Colombia, it is more common for people to initiate traditional relationships and be unfaithful rather than establish within the relationship they are open to other people. This is why 63% of the women who participated in this survey acknowledged using Gleeden to be unfaithful, as they consider it safe and private.

When describing the emotions that infidelity brings, the unfaithful pointed to “joy and freedom” as the sensations caused by extramarital affairs. However, the respondents indicated that there would be no possibility of forgiveness if their partners discovered them. They would deny the situation until the end, but 60% of them assured that they would forgive infidelity.

Finally, 64% of the 15,211 users surveyed assured that they do not plan to separate from their partner, nor have they considered it because, for them, infidelity is simply an escape from monotony.
