Swedish DJ Menja Mist Collaborates with Brazilian Musician to Release Single

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Friday, February 22nd sees the release of the first single resulting from a collaboration between Swedish DJ and producer Menja Mist and Brazilian percussionist and producer Marcelo Vig. The track, titled, ‘The Calling,’ is being released across all major platforms through Vig’s own record label VIGSND.

The track is a combination of Brazilian drums and Nordic-style techno, written between Amsterdam, where Mist is currently based, and Vig’s hometown of Rio. When the two initially met up to collaborate, they were surprised to find that Brazilian rhythms mixed well with the more dreamy Nordic melodies and techno beats.

Mist is now visiting Brazil in order to promote the single and bring her Nordic beats to parties and club nights in Rio, São Paulo, and further afield. “I’ve visited Brazil and Rio de Janeiro before, but the thing that always strikes me is just how much everyone seems to love music, morning, noon, and night!” She comments.

While she’s been here, Menja Mist has been keeping busy, playing with renowned German disk-jockey DJ Hell, as well as guesting at some secret raves throughout the city. She adds, “The party I played at, Lost & Found, where I shared the decks with the legendary DJ Hell, was such a great experience, with so many dedicated people joining the party and a fantastic vibe.”

As for the secret location raves, organized by Rio Underground, these have been another memorable experience for the DJ. “Playing music through the night and watching the amazing sunrise next to Santos Dumont airport with lovely people dancing and enjoying themselves, this is certainly a favorite memory of mine.” She says.

“The Rio crowds are a little bit different, I think because the electronic music scene is less developed here, they are in a sort of ‘infancy stage’ where they are happy to hear the music and are certainly open to new sounds.” Mist adds, “It has been a pleasure to introduce them to the style of music being played at the clubs in Amsterdam.”
