What is Porao do Rock Fortaleza?

Porao do Rock is a festival with deep roots in Brazilian music, and the Fortaleza edition mixes famous national acts with local up-and-comers. It all happens outdoors, which gives it a relaxed, community feel.

This year’s line-up spans decades of Brazilian sound. You’ll see veterans like Os Paralamas do Sucesso alongside newer names like Lagum and Criolo, so there’s something for everyone.

The festival started in São Paulo as a celebration of underground rock, and it has grown into a national touring event. Each city adds its own flavor, and Fortaleza brings the warmth of the northeast.

Expect a mix of generations in the crowd, from older fans who grew up with Paralamas to younger ones discovering new bands. That mix is part of the charm.

The venue, Praça Verde, sits inside the Dragão do Mar cultural centre, a place known for art and nightlife. This setting gives the festival an urban yet inviting vibe that suits its musical range.

Past editions in other cities have drawn thousands of people, and Fortaleza is expected to be just as busy. The organisers have added the zip line and skate rink to keep the energy high between sets.

The line-up, day by day

Friday 14 August kicks off with Os Paralamas do Sucesso, Lagum, The Mönic, Shark, and Sulamericana. Expect singalongs from Paralamas’ hits and a young, energetic crowd for Lagum.

Saturday 15 August brings Biquini Cavadão, Cor dos Olhos, Detonautas, Montage, Pira Coletiva, and Claudine. That’s a mix of pop-rock nostalgia and fresh local sounds.

Friday 21 August features Marcelo Falcão, CPM 22, Switch Stance, Não Religião, and Montage. Falcão’s reggae-infused rock should be a highlight.

Saturday 22 August closes with Criolo, Rodox, Trampa, Lucas Inutilismo, Guizão, and Conti. Criolo’s socially conscious rap is a powerful finale.

Each day runs from late afternoon into the night, giving you plenty of time to catch all the acts. The schedule is spread out so there are no big clashes between headliners.

Local bands like Sulamericana and Pira Coletiva add a distinctly Ceará touch. They often play in small venues around town, so this is a chance to see them on a bigger stage.

Where and how to get there

The festival takes place at Praça Verde, part of the Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura. Organisers chose the entrance on Avenida Monsenhor Tabosa to improve crowd flow.

The Dragão do Mar is a cultural complex in Fortaleza’s historic center. It’s easy to reach by taxi or ride-share, and the area is lively in the evening.

If you prefer public transport, several bus lines stop nearby. The complex also has parking, but it fills up fast on event days, so plan ahead.

The entrance on Monsenhor Tabosa is wide and well-lit, making it safer for large crowds. Once you’re inside, there are clear signs to the main stage and the extra attractions.

For those driving, there are paid parking lots within walking distance. But remember that streets around the venue get busy, so arriving by ride-share might save you time.

Tickets and practical tips

Tickets are sold through Meu Bilhete at beta.meubilhete.com.br/poraodorock. Prices haven’t been published yet, so check closer to the date.

Arrive early to avoid queues at the Monsenhor Tabosa entrance. Bring a light jacket, because August evenings in Fortaleza can get breezy.

The zip line and skate rink are a fun addition. They’re perfect for a break between sets, especially if you’re travelling with kids or just want a laugh.

Stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes. The Praça Verde is an open space, so you’ll be on your feet a lot.

There will be food stalls and bars inside, but cashless payments are the norm these days. Carry a card or your phone for quicker service.

If you’re bringing a backpack, keep it small and light. Security checks at the entrance are thorough, but they move quickly if you don’t have bulky items.

Why this matters for expats and nomads

Fortaleza is often seen as a beach destination, but its music scene is thriving. A festival like this gives you a taste of local culture beyond the sand.

You’ll hear Portuguese lyrics, meet friendly locals, and see a side of the city most tourists miss. It’s a perfect way to feel integrated, whether you’ve been here a week or a decade.

For newcomers, it’s also a chance to practice the language in a fun setting. Music breaks down barriers, and you’ll leave with a few new phrases and maybe some new friends.

The festival’s mix of national and local acts shows how connected Fortaleza is to the rest of Brazil. It’s a reminder that this city is more than just sun and sea.

Even if you’re not a big music fan, the zip line and skate rink make it a fun afternoon out. You can watch the bands from a distance and still enjoy the atmosphere.
