Plane with five German citizens disappears off the coast of Costa Rica

The Minister of Public Security of Costa Rica, Jorge Torres, confirmed this Friday night the disappearance of a plane with five German citizens on the Caribbean coast, which had as its destination the airport of the province of Limón.

“Around six o’clock in the evening, we received an alert about a private flight coming from Mexico to Limón airport; this aircraft was traveling with five passengers of German nationality”, informed the minister.

Torres detailed that the plane lost communication with the control tower near the Barra de Parismina area in the northeastern end of Costa Rica, a place of difficult access due to its natural canals and mangroves.

The minister added that after losing contact with the aircraft, the emergency protocol was activated with the Coast Guard and Air Surveillance Service.

“Due to the hours and the bad weather, we have had to suspend, and we will resume the search first thing tomorrow, at 5 a.m., to rule out any indication of an accident,” he added.

So far, the identity of the pilot and passengers of the aircraft has not been revealed.
