Mexico’s aerospace sector exports US$8 billion in 2022
The Mexican aerospace industry reported 8 billion dollars in exports in 2022, representing an 18% increase in foreign sales compared to the previous year.
This was made known during the general assembly of the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (Femia), in which the president of the entity, René Espinosa Terrazas, highlighted the opportunity that exists for Mexican companies given the growth of demand in the sector.
“We have seen a market recovery. We closed 2022 with a recovery of 18%, which put us above 8 billion dollars in exports,” Espinosa detailed.
He added that, in 2019, US$9.6 billion were exported, which means a real recovery and opportunities are present.
Although Covid-19 brought uncertainty and challenges, he commented that his main commitment as president was to keep the sector united and talk to international organizations about regional projects.
“We have to maintain that vision and maintain a strategic plan as a country, continue working together, and continue to see North America as a geoeconomic block that is giving us, Mexico, the potential to capture the relocation of companies,” said the president of Femia.
He emphasized that the association he leads has become a stronger organization and is trying to address new opportunities, such as the New Space sector, which is looking for regional suppliers, a strategic niche through which available capacities can be used more quickly.
“The most important cluster is called Mexico, and as a country, we have a great opportunity that we have to capitalize on and be able to capture,” he concluded.
THE AEROSPACE SECTOR IN GUANAJUATO
Oscar Rodríguez Yáñez, president of the Bajío Aerospace Cluster (BJXAerospace), explained that Guanajuato is looking for ways to diversify into the aerospace sector for SMEs that are already highly specialized in the automotive sector.
For this purpose, they are outlining a critical route in terms of certifications and alliances, as in the Mexico Aerospace Fair case, to achieve this with a focus on mindfacturing.
To conclude, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, Governor of the State of Guanajuato, highlighted the competitive advantages of the territory and its sectorial diversification, which positions the state as the sixth largest economy in the country.
And the aerospace sector represents the development of mindfacturing, which aligns with his vision towards innovation and the generation of added value.
“We want to bet a lot on this cluster because it is totally mindfacturing. We have high hopes for the Guanajuato aerospace cluster and the companies because we need that sort of ecosystem; that is mindfacturing, that is design, that is innovation.”
“Aerospace has a great future and great potential. Guanajuato has always been recognized in the agricultural sector, now automotive, and I promise you that in the next few years, Guanajuato will be the leader in aerospace in this country,” said the Governor of the State of Guanajuato.
He also acknowledged the great work of the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry, which represents more than 100 companies, and whose exports represent 80% of the annual foreign sales of the Mexican aerospace industry.
