March for Jesus 2025 Draws Millions, Shows Brazil’s Evangelical Influence

By · June 19, 2025 · 2 min read

On June 19, 2025, São Paulo hosted the 33rd March for Jesus, a massive Christian event organized by the Igreja Renascer em Cristo.

Official sources confirm the march began at 10 a.m. at Avenida Tiradentes, near Luz station, and ended at Praça Heróis da Força Expedicionária Brasileira, covering about 3.5 kilometers.

Organizers expected around two million participants, with over 20,000 caravans arriving from across Brazil. The event’s theme, “Jesus, Deus Forte,” referenced the age at which, according to Christian tradition, Jesus died—33 years.

Apostle Estevam Hernandes and Bishop Sônia Hernandes led the march, which included collective prayer, gospel music, and public worship. More than 20 well-known gospel artists performed, including Aline Barros and Thalles Roberto.

The event also featured a Marcha Kids for children and people with disabilities. Over 3,500 volunteers, divided into 60 teams, managed logistics, security, and support for attendees.

Political leaders attended in force. São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas and Mayor Ricardo Nunes joined the march, as did Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça.

Evangelicals and the Rise of the March for Jesus in Brazil

The presence of these officials highlighted the growing influence of evangelicals in Brazilian politics. The event provided a platform for leaders to address the crowd and reinforce connections with a key voting bloc.

Notably, President Lula da Silva and former President Jair Bolsonaro did not attend, although both received invitations. The March for Jesus is now a fixture in Brazil’s annual calendar, recognized by federal law since 2009.

The event’s peaceful nature and inclusive approach—open to all Christian denominations—draw participants from every region. Organizers emphasize the march’s role in uniting Christians and promoting messages of faith and peace.

The event’s scale demonstrates the rapid growth of evangelical Christianity in Brazil. Census data from 2010 showed over 41 million evangelicals in the country, with current estimates near 50 million.

The march’s economic impact is significant. The influx of visitors boosts local commerce, from transportation to food vendors and merchandise sales. Official T-shirts, for example, sold for R$53.90 each.

The event’s logistics require extensive planning, with thousands of volunteers ensuring smooth operations. The march’s size and organization reflect the professionalism and resources of Brazil’s evangelical community.

The March for Jesus matters because it illustrates the intersection of faith, politics, and commerce in modern Brazil. The event’s ability to mobilize millions and attract high-profile leaders shows the strength and unity of the evangelical movement.

Businesses, politicians, and observers should note the march’s influence on public life and its growing role in shaping Brazil’s social and economic landscape.
