According to the Metrópoles website, the still-unidentified man jumped the access turnstiles to TV Globo screaming “Globo is garbage”, and demanded to see journalist Renata Vasconcellos. He took as a hostage reporter Marina Araújo, who was near the scene.

Rede Globo’s general director of journalism, Ali Kamel, tried to negotiate with the criminal, but the man was then immobilized and neutralized by the police. “Renata showed up and the guy let go of the knife, as agreed. He was arrested. He dropped the knife and lifted his shirt,” said Metrópoles.

Marina Araujo was not hurt, and no one else was harmed. The intruder was taken to a nearby police station.
