Israel Strikes Damascus and Aleppo Airports, Says Syria

Syrian media reported Israeli attacks on airports in Damascus and Aleppo this Thursday, with Syrian air defenses responding to both strikes.

Damage occurred at Aleppo’s airport, but no injuries were reported. The situation at Damascus airport remains unclear.

Israel usually stays silent on such matters, and this time was no different. For years, Israel has been hitting targets in Syria, linking them to Iran.

Earlier this year, a missile strike in Damascus killed four people, including two soldiers.

Reports suggest these attacks aim to cut off Iranian supplies to Syria. Iran’s influence there has grown since backing President Bashar al-Assad in 2011.

Iran’s Foreign Minister visited Syria on the day of the strikes. Teams are assessing the damage, says Syria’s Transport Ministry.

Background

The Syria-Israel conflict isn’t new; it has historical roots dating back decades. Israel often cites Iranian influence in Syria as a security threat.

Iran’s growing role in Syria is a concern for many countries, not just Israel. This attack coincides with the visit of Iran’s Foreign Minister, which may be more than a coincidence.

The Syrian war, which began as a peaceful protest in 2011, has turned into a complex conflict.

This war has drawn in multiple foreign powers and caused significant loss of life. Nearly 500,000 people have died, and many Syrians are displaced.

These strikes add another layer to an already complicated situation.
