Earlier, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen revealed Hamas took over 100 people hostage last weekend.

On the same day, Hamas issued a warning. Their spokesperson, Abu Obaida, stated they would execute hostages if Israel attacks.

Despite ongoing attacks, no executed hostages are reported. Army spokesperson Jonathan Conricus also spoke on Wednesday.

He said citizens from multiple countries, including the USA and UK, are among the hostages.

He emphasized that many democratic governments are involved in the rescue efforts.

Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a different view. Ambassador Carlos Duarte said they couldn’t confirm if Brazilians were among the hostages.

Background

Israel’s Energy Minister, Israel Katz, said Gaza won’t get electricity, water, or fuel until Hamas releases hostages.

This event marks the latest clash in a long history between Israelis and Palestinians. Hamas has ruled Gaza since 2007.

The area has seen many conflicts involving Israel, Hamas, and other global players.

Israel’s cut-off of utilities aims to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages. This move raises ethical questions about collective punishment and humanitarian law.

The crisis becomes more complex with the involvement of citizens from various countries.

This situation shows the region’s stability is still fragile. A coordinated international effort is needed for a lasting solution.
