RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The federal deputy and potential future ambassador of Brazil to the United States, Eduardo Bolsonaro, used his Twitter account on Wednesday, September 25th, to attack teenager Greta Thunberg.

The Swede, who is an environmental activist, gave a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on climate change that has gone viral all over the world.

Greta spoke firmly to the leaders and said that countries like France, Germany, Argentina, Turkey, and Brazil are not doing enough to fight global warming. The speech was given last Monday, September 23rd, in New York.

Eduardo, the president’s youngest son, came out in defense of his father, who was among those criticized by Greta. The problem is that, when criticizing the activist’s attitude, the deputy shared a fake edited photo in his social media, in which Greta is seen eating in front of African children.

The photo in question, shared by Eduardo, is an edited version of a photo posted by Greta, in which the girl is eating inside a train heading for Denmark. The event was published on the activist’s Instagram on January 22nd, 2019.

There are no children at the window, but some leafless trees. In the caption, it is written: “Lunch in Denmark”.

The other image used in the editing was taken in 2007, in the Central African Republic, by photographer Stephanie Hancock, from Reuters agency. The children portrayed there lived in a refugee camp.

George Soros

In addition to the fake photo, Eduardo shares a fake “story” saying that Greta is funded by billionaire George Soros. The information, which is untrue, stemmed from a manipulated photo of Greta, in which Soros’ head was put in place of Al Gore’s face, next to whom the young woman actually stood.

The original photo dates back to December 2018 and was published on social media by the girl herself, who thanked Al Gore for being “a true pioneer” of the environmental cause.

Days before, both had taken part in the Polish Climate Conference (COP-24), in which they made speeches to pressure governments to adopt ambitious global protection measures.

In recent months, Greta has become one of the main voices on climate issues by demanding that authorities fight global warming. She drew attention as she won speaking roles in global climate assemblies and meetings.
