Dollar drops for the first time since Lula da Silva’s inauguration
The commercial dollar closed at R$5.35 this Thursday, Jan. 5. It is the first time that the currency’s price has fallen since Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took office as President of the Republic.
Compared to the previous day’s quotation, the commercial dollar closed down almost 2% yesterday.
In the last trading session before Lula da Silva took office for the third term as President of the Republic, the U.S. currency closed, quoted at R$5.28.
In other words, it was about 1% lower.
Also, on Thursday, the Ibovespa closed high, with the quotation at just over 107 thousand points.
The appreciation reached 2% over the previous trading day. The index is the main indicator of the Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3).
Market reactions improved after Rui Costa, Chief Minister of the Civil Household, stated that there are no studies underway for a possible revision of the pension reform.
In addition, Senator Jean-Paul Prates (PT-RN) ruled out a policy of direct intervention in the price of fuel at Petrobras.
The congressman was indicated by Lula to assume the presidency of the state-owned company.
Shares rose amid Prates’ position. In general, the company’s shares appreciated by about 3%.
