Dollar and Ibovespa rise at São Paulo’s B3 exchange
The commercial dollar ended the Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3) trading session up 1% on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
During yesterday’s negotiations, the North American currency closed at R$5.16. The Ibovespa closed with gains of 0.7%, passing to just over 112 thousand points.
The rise in the dollar’s value at B3 occurred amid the results of sales in the U.S. retail market in December. Last month, the sector registered sales of US$677 billion, 1% less than in November.

In the US financial market, the day was marked by falls. The Dow Jones fell almost 2%, the S&P 500 lost 1.5%, and the Nasdaq technology index retreated just over 1%.
At the same time, Ibovespa managed to hold its high amid the good results of the banks and mining companies that are part of the indicator.
Among the highest rises of the day were the common shares of CSN Mineração (CMIN3), close to 5%, those of 3R Petroleum (RRRP3), almost 4%, and CSN (CSNA3), about 3%. Vale’s (VALE3) shares gained a little more than 1%.
As for banks, the highlight was BTG Pactual’s (BPAC11) unitary shares, which gained a little over 2%, Banco do Brasil’s (BBAS3) ordinary shares, up 1.5%, and Itaú’s (ITUB4) preferred shares, up close to 2%.
