This will be the first time that most of Rio’s audience watch the participant productions, unreleased in Brazil’s mainstream audiovisual circuit.

The event aims to promote the Swedish independent cinema, celebrate its diversity, and highlight the pioneer ideas of new Swedish filmmakers.

Opening the festival will be the exhibition of “Hotell” (Hotel, 2013), on August 17th at 3:30 PM. Directed by Lisa Langseth, the film presents the story of Erika, a woman whose supposedly “perfect life” suddenly falls apart. Once Erika joins a therapy group, they start a very peculiar hobby: to check-in at random hotels. The film reflects on the lack of health and wellness in the contemporary life.

On the same day, at 7:30 PM, Cine Joia will screen Anna Odell’s “The Reunion” (2013). In the movie, Odell plays herself in a reunion with her former school classmates – for which she was not invited. The story turns around what could have happened in case Odell had attended to the reunion, at the same time it recalls all of the traumas she experienced in the past.

Displayed on August 18th, at 3:30 PM, will be “Ego” (2013), directed by Lisa James Larsson. This romantic comedy narrates the story of Sebastian Silverberg, a 25 year-old “party animal” whose life consists in one-night stands and satisfying his ego. Suddenly, Silverberg loses his vision, which forces him to rethink of his principles and lifestyle.

Directed by Felix Herngren, “The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared ” (2013) is a comedy in which 100 year-old Allan Karlsson escapes from his house and disappears. Screened on the 19th, at 3:30 PM, the film shows the experiences of an elderly whose adventures involve a suitcase full of money and a lot of murders.

The “Mostra Joias do Cinema Sueco” (Pearls of the Swedish Cinema) is promoted in partnership with Brazil’s Swedish Embassy. The movie sessions happen every day, from 2:30 PM to 7:15 PM.
