Brazil’s Méliuz Makes Big Bet on Bitcoin, Invests $30 Million More

Brazilian company Méliuz has just spent about R$157 million (roughly $30 million) to buy more bitcoin. This move, announced on June 23, 2025, means Méliuz now owns nearly 600 bitcoins.

That makes it the largest company holder of bitcoin in Latin America. Méliuz is a fintech firm listed on Brazil’s stock market. Over the past few months, it has changed how it manages its money.

Instead of keeping most of its cash in the bank, Méliuz has started using a big part of its funds to buy bitcoin. The company raised R$180 million from investors by selling new shares, promising to use this money to buy even more bitcoin.

The company’s leaders say they made this decision because Brazil’s currency, the real, has lost value over the years. Meanwhile, bitcoin has grown a lot in price over the past decade.

Méliuz believes that holding bitcoin could protect its money from inflation and help it grow faster than if it kept cash in the bank. Méliuz set up a special committee to make sure its bitcoin investments are safe and follow the rules.
