Brazil’s Eletrobras privatization hinges on shareholders’ approval and TCU’s decision

By · January 28, 2022 · 1 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The government aims to complete the process in the second quarter of 2022.

However, there are two pending steps: the approval of the shareholders’ meeting, scheduled for February, and the Federal Audit Court (TCU) decision, begun last year and expected to take place by March this year.

Congress last June passed a bill allowing the privatization of Eletrobras.

The TCU Justices raised several concerns regarding the process.

For instance, they question the real impact of the privatization on electricity tariffs.
