Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation recently joined hands with the Ministry of Defense and Finep.

Together, they signed a deal worth over $48 million. This fund aims to boost innovation in the defense sector.

Twenty-two projects from 25 companies will benefit from this deal.

Luciana Santos, the Science Minister, said the funds would enhance essential innovations. These include environment monitoring and border security.

Additionally, the move aims to protect indigenous lands and the populace.

Moreover, Santos stated that investing in defense raises exports and job opportunities. It also helps to keep talent in the country.

The plan encourages cooperation among industries, academia, and technology creators.

Finep chose projects in various fields, such as aerospace and cybersecurity. Notable companies like Kryptus Information Security SA made the cut.

They developed Typhon, an autonomous cybersecurity platform. This platform uses cognitive intelligence and modern cryptography methods.

Defense Contributes 4.8% to Brazil’s GDP

Defense Minister José Mucio Monteiro praised the deal. He said it strengthens the defense sector, industry, and academia.

He highlighted that defense contributes 4.8% to Brazil’s GDP and generates about 3 million jobs.

Celso Pansera, Finep’s President, welcomed the new investment. He said it revives industry and innovation in Brazil.

“We’re investing in a mature defense system at an opportune time,” he stated.

This initiative aligns with the National Council for Industrial Development’s goals. Their mission focuses on technologies vital for national defense and sovereignty.

Santos concluded by saying this investment marks a historic high for the defense sector.
