São Paulo government explores privatization of hydroelectric power company

The São Paulo government, in collaboration with consultants from Genial Bank, recently held an initial working meeting to initiate pre-feasibility studies and model the privatization process of Emae (Metropolitan Water and Power Company).

Genial Bank is part of the New Genius Emae Consortium, which successfully won the bid.

The studies will involve the assessment, structuring, and execution of the sale of movable assets held directly and indirectly by the São Paulo government.

Under the contract awarded in the lowest price modality, the financial institution will receive remuneration of 0.69% based on the value of the shares sold during the privatization process.

This initiative falls under the São Paulo State Investment Partnership Program (PPI-SP), which encompasses 17 proposals with a potential investment value of up to R$192.3 (US$39) billion.

Emae is a publicly traded company currently controlled by the State of São Paulo, primarily operating in the hydroelectric energy production sector.

Its operations include hydroelectric and thermal power plants, dams, reservoirs, pumping stations, as well as the management of the Pinheiros and Guarapiranga canals and the Billings and Guarapiranga reservoirs, all located within the Greater São Paulo area.
