Brazilian Entrepreneur Creates All-You-Can-Drink Wine Bar in São Paulo
SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – In 2016, nearly 30 million people drank wine once a week in Brazil. Today it is 32 million. Focused on this public, a businessman invested in a new concept for the consumer. Rafael Ilan saw a business opportunity in the United States and brought it to Brazil: to sell wine servings. The price varies from R$5 (US$1.30) to R$200 per glass.
“It’s a wine bar, not a restaurant, and it’s a bar with a restaurant aspect. You can have dinner, have a snack. It’s a blend of bar and restaurant,” he explains.
The customer may choose from 96 wine labels, from the most awarded to the most affordable. The wine is served in 3 sizes: 30ml, 60ml or 120ml.
With this new product, Rafael’s bar has grown by 15 percent a year since 2015. In 2018, revenues were R$4.5 million. As a result of this success, the entrepreneur decided to take another chance and created the wine “rodízio” (all-you-can-drink).
The service process has been simplified using labels with numbers to make it easier for the customer to place the order. “We always place 15 labels divided into sparkling wines, whites, roses, reds, and dessert. The customer may drink at will from 6:30 PM to midnight,” explains Rafael.
The bar welcomes an average of 800 people per month and yielded R$1.3 million last year. The plan now is to expand even further. “I got my investment back after a month. I really know it’s outstanding, and we’re already thinking of setting up one more stores of our own and from there, franchising to other locations, to interior of São Paulo,” adds the businessman.
