World has 3,988 cancelled flights on second day of 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Passengers worldwide have been affected by flight delays and cancellations due to the rise of Omicron variant infections and poor weather conditions.

According to a survey by Flight Aware, a platform that monitors flights worldwide, as of 4:30 PM on Sunday, (January 2), 3,988 flights had been cancelled. Among them, 2,362 left the United States or had the country as destination.

The U.S. has been affected by blizzards at this time of the year. In addition, infection by the new African variant of Covid-19 has placed airlines on alert.
