Female Baptist pastor celebrates same-sex marriage for first time in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - A Baptist Church pastor celebrated a same-sex wedding for the first time. Odja Barros gave her blessing to two women in Maceió (AL), on Saturday, December 11, in one of the first marriages performed by Baptist pastors in the country between two people of the same sex.

The ceremony united Tuane Alves, 29, and Erika Ribeiro, also 29, in a ballroom in the capital of Alagoas state. The ceremony was a landmark, since the Baptist church is considered one of the most traditional and conservative evangelical denominations in Brazil.
