Chile and Costa Rica were elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council in a vote that prevented Venezuela's re-election, the foreign ministries of both countries announced.
"With 144 votes, Chile has been elected with the first regional majority to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2023-2025," the official Chilean Foreign Ministry tweeted.
For its part, the Costa Rican Foreign Ministry stressed "the support of all member states for its candidacy."
It recalled that Costa Rica has a seat in the Council for the second time in its history since its creation in 2006. . .
