Panama Airport restarts operations after severe electrical storm

The Tocumen international airport, the largest in Panama and the largest node of air connections in Latin America, restarted its operations, suspended for almost three hours due to an electrical storm and the prevailing bad weather.

“Because the weather conditions are suitable for the arrival and takeoff of aircraft, Tocumen announces the restart of all its operations,” the airport also known as the Hub of the Americas reported on its Twitter social network account.

Shortly before dawn, the air terminal decided to suspend operations and divert flights to the Panama Pacifico airport and other alternatives, just one day after a Boeing 737 arriving from Mexico skidded off the runway upon landing.

Sources in Tocumen confirmed to the Sputnik Agency that the aforementioned plane, operated by the COPA airline, is still stuck in the ditch where it landed when leaving runway 03 right, where the persistent rain makes removal work difficult.

Panama, like Central America and the Caribbean, remains under the effect of storms associated with both the tail of Hurricane Ian, which hit Cuba last morning, and the “winter” rainfall, as the region calls the season of rains.
