Nicaragua is one of 14 countries participating in the Vostok 2022 military maneuver, which will take place in eastern Russia from September 1 to 7.
Analysts told Sputnik that the Central American country’s participation in the strategic exercise strengthens relations with Moscow and helps protect its national heritage.
According to Manuel Espinoza, a political analyst at the Regional Center for International Studies (CREI) and a specialist in international relations, the Central American country’s participation in the Vostok 2022 exercise represents an opportunity for better training and professionalization of troops.
Espinoza highlighted that the maneuvers would use modern equipment and procedures from the perspective of naval, air, and land forces.
The joint exercise with Russia will involve 50,000 troops and observers from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and partner nations such as Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Syria, and Tajikistan.
