Dominican Republic records best month in history for tourist arrivals in August

The Dominican Republic recorded the arrival of 621,953 travelers in August, reaching the best month in its history, according to the Office of Publicity of the Ministry of Tourism of the country.

Adding to this figure, the 94,792 cruise passengers who arrived in the country last month, according to the two officials, the total number of visitors in August was 716,745, “unprecedented,” Collado was quoted as saying in the release.

“Of the 621,953 visitors in August, 502,289 were foreigners, and 119,674 were locals,” the text said.

The tourism minister also announced that the Dominican Republic received 4,904,162 tourists and 755,818 excursionists from January to August.

The ministry highlights that the arrival of foreigners in August “represents a growth of 27% compared to 2019 and 11% compared to 2018.”

“Ethnic visits also registered an increase of 18% last month compared to August 2019 and 39% compared to the same month in 2018,” it said.

The Ministry of Tourism added that “tourist arrivals by air set a record last month,” surpassing the 537,576 travelers in 2018 and 497,390 visitors in the pre-pandemic period of 2019.
