Personnel and assets from the Chilean Navy's Beagle Naval District (Disnabe) and the Argentine Navy's Austral Naval Area (Anau) began a new version of the combined Viekaren exercise Monday, Aug. 15, to strengthen trust and interoperability between the two institutions in Beagle Channel waters.
The Viekaren exercise, which runs until Aug. 21, is an activity under the agreements of the 1984 Peace and Friendship Treaty, which aims to promote good relations between Chile and Argentina.
According to the Chilean Navy, this annual exercise aims to strengthen trust by increasing the speed of operational response and improving the interoperability . . .
