Unswayed by EU tactics, Russia declares strengthening ties with Latin America after CELAC summit

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that despite the European Union’s (EU) efforts, relations between Russia and Latin America would not be disrupted but rather strengthened.

This statement followed the EU-27 summit with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Brussels.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized during a press briefing that Russia and Latin America share mutual respect, mutual benefit, and an understanding of each other’s positions in the global context.

Zakharova claimed the EU’s summit with Latin America was not focused on resolving the Ukrainian crisis, but on promoting a Western perspective.

She further alleged that the EU aimed to complicate communications between Russia and Latin America.

However, she reassured that the bond between Russia and the Latin American and Caribbean countries will only be reinforced.

The EU and Celac summit concluded by expressing concern about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, advocating diplomatic efforts for sustainable peace according to the UN charter.

However, not all CELAC members agreed with this stance, with Nicaragua notably dissenting.
