Despite all the challenges faced by the economy and society last year, the M&A (mergers and acquisitions) sector in Latin America registered remarkable figures in the first half of 2022, both in terms of the number and size of transactions.

A total of 1,621 mergers and acquisitions were announced and completed, with a total value of US$50.094 billion, according to the latest Transactional Track Record Report, a study prepared in collaboration with Aon and Datasite.

The study shows that in the second quarter of 2022 alone, a total of 385 mergers and acquisitions were announced or completed in Latin America.

Compared to the same period in 2020, at the height of the recession due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of M&A transactions in Latin America increased by 55.5%.

Also according to the survey, Brazil leads the ranking of the most active countries in the region since the beginning of 2022, with 1,130 transactions in the first half of 2022, representing an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year and mobilized capital of US$31.294 billion.

Mexico is second, with 191 transactions and a capital turnover of US$7.438 billion.

Regarding the sectors that grew the most in the Latin American mergers and acquisitions market, the technology and financial sectors registered a very strong increase in transactions.

While promising, they also carry liability risks and extremely critical cyber risks that must be carefully evaluated when acquiring a company.
